Gothic Archies Theme Songs for Lemony Snicket Audio Books

Using his band-pen name The Gothic Archies, Stephin Merritt has been recording original theme songs for children's audio books produced by Harper Audio. He has composed nine songs so far for the immensely successful childrens series by Lemony Snicket, "A Series of Unfortunate Events". Ultimately there will be theme songs for all thirteen books in the series. Merritt has released incidental music for the audio book of Neil Gaiman's Coraline, also through Harper Audio. The theme songs will all come out on one Gothic Archies audio CD when the "Series of Unfortunate Events" is complete.

The Magnetic Fields Sign to Nonesuch

In 2002, the Magnetic Fields signed a two album deal with Nonesuch Records, a subsidiary of Warner Brothers. Nonesuch's excellent and diverse artist roster includes Laurie Anderson, Caetano Veloso, Emmylou Harris, John Adams and Wilco. Stephin Merritt is currently at work recording the new Magnetic Fields album, which should be available in September, 2003. This album will feature Merritt singing all the songs, with instruments played by himself and bandmates John Woo, Sam Davol, and Claudia Gonson.
